Remove barriers from domestic energy sources

The Patriot-News

Your Jan. 4 editorial, "Coal-to-diesel idea promising," hits upon several critical points for which you should be commended.

The Senate does need to pass an energy bill; America needs the coal-to-diesel concept that John W. Rich, Jr. is striving for, but we also need the oil from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and every other source of domestic energy possible.

Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein collects $20 million-$25 million per day in oil sales to American citizens, some of which finds its way to support global terrorism.

We send Iraq more money in three weeks than is required to build the Schuylkill County coal-to-diesel facility. This project could provide jobs for Pennsylvanians, instead of money for terrorists.

The United States must get serious about having a national energy policy that removes barriers to producing energy from our abundant domestic resources.
